We stop for a delicious lunch along the river, having time to enjoy the peacefulness of the canyon, then more rafting!!After an exciting day of rafting we all return to camp around 3-4 P.M. with time to enjoy a hot shower while the guides prepare the delicious BBQ dinner (choices of steak, chicken and salmon, or, enjoy all three!*).

The season has started in Puerto Vallarta and there have been some changes. Coco's is now serving breakfast and lunch at Barrio Sur, Pulpito 122 (next to The Abbey Hotel) from 8am till 3pm. Pancakes or French Toast with 2 eggs and ham or bacon - $49.00 pesos. Boca Bento has moved down the coast to Mismaloya at the Casa Iguana Resort. Coconuts has closed it's doors but Seth has relocated to Club Manana with the new Que Raro!! Open from 5 - 10pm with that great southern food. A blue plate special is featured every night for $99. pesos and 2 for 1 drinks Monday thru Saturday from 5 - 7pm. You also get free admission to Manana for the evening with dinner. Over on Olas Altas, Mama Dolores has been sold but it's business as usual with the new owners. The newest nightclub, Industry will open it's doors on November 28th at the former Ranch. Halloween Cruise Has Sailed

We are just back from the 11th annual Cruising With Pride Halloween Cruise and what a blast it was. 200 Gay men and women and their friends partied to Ensenada Mexico and back aboard the Carnival Paradise. There was drinking and eating and drinking and gambling and drinking and shopping and drinking. there were private parties and costume parades and contests. We even took over an entire nightclub in Ensenada for the day with strippers and drag bingo and a fabulous buffet lunch. It was nonstop as it was only a 3 night cruise. With that many of us on board, any bar on the ship was a gay bar and the Rex Disco was party central. I did not hear of any problems with the straight population and group harmony seemed to be achieved. Next years cruise (12th annual) is in the planning stages and we will bring you details soon!

Terry's Great River Cruise Adventure

My Cruise Adventure boils down to one word……YES!

I have been on over 75 ocean cruises and have never come back as relaxed as I did from this River Cruise. As many of you know, I went on this cruise as a prelude to our European River Journey next March. I was not able to cruise on our ship, the Symphony, but was able to do so on her twin sister, the Royal.

It is true that there is not much to do on a River Cruise and the entertainment tends to be mediocre, but I found that this gave me more time to chat and get to know the people that were on board. However, the glass blowing demo and the beer tasting was worthwhile. Now keep in mind that this cruise was not a gay cruise, and, as it turned out, I was the only gay passenger on board. I never hide the fact that I am gay and often offer this up voluntarily, and it did not seem to matter to anyone. I met people from Australia, Israel, Austria, Switzerland and the good old USA, and enjoyed the time I had with all of them.

As for the ship itself, she is a beauty. The beds were comfortable, except for the fact that the twin beds pushed together seemed to separate a lot, and I found myself in the crack more than once. Yes I am referring to the crack between the beds. The rooms are spacious and I never lacked hot water when I needed it. My first 3 days of cruising we experienced unusually cold weather, and, therefore, unable to use the sundeck, but the ship has plenty of floor to ceiling windows in the lounge to observe the fantastic scenery.

The dining room has an open seating policy, but I found that I had no problem finding a seat, and was often invited to join tables. The food was very good, but to some it was a little light on the portion size. I found by the time I had the appetizer, soup or salad, main course and desert, I walked away satisfied and comfortable. Of course, the unlimited wine or beer at dinner really was a highlight of the cruise and helped to keep my total bar bill under $150.00 for the week. Compared to what I usually spend on ocean liners, this was a welcome relief.

One suggestion I would give to anyone joining us on this cruise, is to fly into Nuremberg the day before the cruise departs. This not only gives you the opportunity to visit the street markets, but it also gives you a rest before you depart on your cruise. Nuremberg is located in Bavaria, which is heavily Catholic, and therefore the city is basically a ghost town on Sunday. So, if you can, fly in the day before, do so. I also recommend the Sheraton Carlton, which is only one block from the train station and one block from the old city walls and city.

As for the daily shore excursions, I enjoyed all but one, and that was Bamberg. This is a great little town and provides some fantastic photo ops, but I found the local guide to be long winded and boring. It was the consensus of the group that this is a town better seen on your own. As for the optional shore excursion package we will be offering, I do recommend them. I found the medieval town of Rothenberg a jewel, and for those who love Christmas, there is a shop here not to be missed. But, my favorite was Wurzburg and the visit to the Residenz, the palace of the Bishop Princes who ruled this municipality. This palace is breathtaking and has to be one of the most opulent royal residences that I have ever scene, and the gardens are not to be missed. The Mirrored Reception Hall puts Versailles to shame in my opinion. The palace was under renovations when we visited, but I am happy to say that renovations are supposed to be finalized by the time we visit in March. Of course, one of the highlights of the tour was the visit to the wine cellars of the palace, and of course wine tasting. Be prepared to step back in time here.

I know this is long, but there was so much to see and do everywhere we went. So at this point I will skip to Amsterdam, and what can I say about this city. It is a gay haven, it is friendly, it is historic, and it is Amsterdam! I had a fantastic time the two additional days I spent here. I am not known to be a penny pincher when it comes to dining, but I decided to give it a try in Amsterdam and succeeded quite well. No, I didn’t visit Mickey D’s, the King, or the Colonel, even though they were plentiful. But I did visit a few of the Wok cafes, and found their fresh meals to be filling, reasonably priced, and very good. I love just wandering about in Amsterdam and must have averaged at least 10 miles each day I was there. I usually don’t do that much walking, but maybe it was the smell in the air that kept me going. It was a stitch listening to the older tourists when they would walk by a coffee shop and get a whiff of the 420 permeating from them.

We have returned home from Thailand and just in time I think. The protests turned violent and a state of emergency has been declared. But we had a good time! I have posted a link to my photos to the left. It says "Thailand Pics". Thanks to Jon and Craig for taking me to Vertigo for my birthday dinner on our last night in Bangkok. Next up: Terry's river cruise adventure. He leaves on the 14th.

Chiang Mai update

Today we have a free day here in Chiang Mai. Yesterday saw us going to the top of the mountain to visit the temple and the Humong Hill Tribe village. After two weeks I think I have had my fill of Thai food. We found a great place called "The Dukes" at the night market. Best pizza I have had in a long while. We should have pizza that good in San Diego! I think I will be having lunch there today. Tonight we will have Indian food at "The Whole Earth" here on the hotel property. Tomorrow morning we fly back to Bangkok. It should be interesting with all the protests going on there. Thousands and thousands of people have taken over government buildings, the Prime Ministers office and a TV station. Seems that the army is letting them do it. It has been peaceful so far. Chiang Mai

We arrived in Chiang Mai last night and set right out for a dinner show with traditional Northern Thai dances. The dinner was wonderful and after we went to another show of Hill Tribe dances. Today we are going on a city and Temples tour for a half day. Jon and Craig walked over to the night market last night and say it is wonderful and very large with better prices than Bangkok. I can't wait to get there. I need to buy a new bag for all the stuff I bought so far. The hotel, Yang Come Village, is over the top. Just wait till I get the pics posted. Now that I have access to a windows computer I can update the blog. Until next time.....

Just quick update.....We are all having a great time in Bangkok and we leave for Chiang Mai in the North in a couple of days. But, tonight we take a dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya river to take in all the sights at night, and most of all the magnificent Royal Palace. I am having some difficulties updating the blog on my IPod, so I will fill you all in when I get back.

Today is the day. I will be leaving for the train station in a few hours. My flight leaves from LAX just after midnight tonight. Over 13 hours to Taipei and then another 4 or so to Bangkok. I will arrive midday on Saturday and the group will arrive Sunday night. This will be my first time on Eva Air. They are based in Taiwan. I am in business class, Eva calls that Elite class. I will write a review about them when I return. I will keep posting via wi-fi hot spots.

I am gearing up for the Thailand departure on the 15th. I will actually leave on the 14th and arrive a day ahead of the group. The last couple of days have seen me nailing down the optional tours for Bangkok and Chiang Mai. This is the rainy season there with afternoon thunderstorms everyday, so not so hot. Only about 90 with 100% humidity. The dry season can see highs around 100. Our itinerary includes a city and temples tour, the ancient capital of Siam, Ayutthaya, the floating markets, Khao Yai National Park and a dinner cruise in Bangkok. In Chiang Mai, a private city and temples tour and a private tour to the Golden Triangle at the border of Laos and Cambodia to visit the Hill Tribes. I am really excited about this adventure and I will update the blog from my iPhone whenever I find a wi-fi hotspot.

Well my darlings, I have just returned from Florida (HOT) where I was fortunate enough to attend a very large performance by the very short Leslie Jordan (Will & Grace, Sordid Lives). I was actually on the same flight with him going into Orlando and we had a nice chat and then we spoke again after the show. A really nice man, no attitude at all. His show, "My Trip Down the Pink Carpet" is all about coming to terms with his homosexuality in the deep south. And that brings us to our next subject....

This weekend is San Diego Pride! There is NO better place to attend a Pride event. Everyone knows we have the best weather in the world here. A quick check of the forcast for this weekend says: Saturday 70 & partly cloudy, Sunday 72 & partly cloudy. We will not have a booth this year so I am going to be on the move, checking out everything and everyone. The headliner for Sunday is Kathy Griffin on the Green Stage.

Greetings from Las Vegas! I'm just here using my timeshare points before they expire. My friend Wayne has joined me and we are going to see Mama Mia tonight. We will also be going to An Evening at La Cage and having dinner at Lucky Chengs. Last night we dined at the Border Grill at Mandalay Bay. It was very good if not a bit expensive. Try the honeydew margarita.

Well boys and girls, we have been learning all about web advertising and banner ads and such. We are saturating the gay web with happy images and descriptive passages of our upcoming European River Journey. Space continues to sell at a rapid pace and we urge you to get in on this cruise while you still can.

Terry is going over in September to inspect the ship and work on some details. He is going to travel the same itinerary as our charter and will be looking out for special little things that might appeal to our group.

My favorite part, besides the beer, is we are traveling through wine country. Through three distinct wine regions:

Franken, famous for the Bocksbeutel, a flat round bottle. Riesling and other early ripening grapes are prominent here and the region is known for it's powerful and earthy Silvaner wines. Spatburgunder (Pinot Noir) and Domina are the main red grapes here.

Rheingau, Riesling and Spatburgunder (Pinot Noir) vines carpet the slopes of the Taunus hills.

Mittelrhein, The spectacular stretch of river known as the gorge. Slate stone hills and a perfect micro climate have had vines thriving here for 2000 years. Ancient castle ruins and crisp, fragrant Rieslings define this region.

We will have to talk about the beers next time. Or the food?

The cruise continues to sell well and we are now looking at perhaps another one. We are thinking about a Christmas Markets on the Danube cruise that would have the possibility of a pre extension in Prague and a post extension in Budapest. I have done this cruise before and let me tell you that the Christmas Markets are just magical. It really feels like Christmas when your in Vienna. This cruise also features an optional all day excursion to Salzburg. We will let you know as soon as we have it under contract.

Final details for our Exotic Bangkok departure of August 16 are shaping up nicely. Some have chosen the Chaing Mai extension while others have chosen to see Angor Wat in Cambodia. I can't wait. This will be my first time in Thailand and I plan to see as much as I can. I can almost smell the night market now. The shopping is going to be fabulous. I can't believe the response to our all gay river cruise. It is just off the wall. I think we should have chartered two ships! The cabins are booking up fast. In fact, there are only a couple left in cat D. This is really the way to see Europe now. With the high cost of the Euro, a river cruise makes the best value for your dollar. All your meals are included, along with unlimited beer and wine with dinner. Most of your shore excursions are included. In fact, there are only two optional excursions offered on the cruise. Everyone that has booked so far has also booked the optional Amsterdam extension. I am putting together an optional Tulip tour for Amsterdam. We are looking at spending a half day at Keukenhof Gardens. This is the national tulip showplace of the Netherlands and is open only 6-8 weeks a year. A Party in Puerto Vallarta

Well, we just got back from our event week in Puerto Vallarta and I must say it was a smash hit. We are working on next years event as we speak and don't ya know it will be bigger and better, new and improved. The group started a new tradition of crawling from bar to bar in the style of Southern Decadence and we will see that tradition through to next year. Vallarta Decadencia! The host hotel was the Abbey Hotel in the Zona Romantica. The Abbey is an all gay resort in the heart of all gaydom. The staff of the hotel is FABULOUS! The food was fresh and excellent at all meals. We chartered a party boat for an all day cruise with open bar and lunch, snorkeling and swimming. Some even went parasailing! I will post more thoughts as the tequila haze clears and I remember them.
